Upcoming Programs at Beall Woods SP
Beall Woods State Park in Illinois will be hosting Woodland Wildflower Hikes on Saturdays, April 4 and 11 at 9 a.m., Sunday, April 12 at 1:30 p.m. and again on Saturday, April 18 at 8a.m.
Discover the beauty of woodland wildflowers as they spring up from the forest floor. The Site Interpreter will lead participants on a 1 to 2 mile hike along the trails of the Nature Preserve. This is a wonderful opportunity to capture the presence of spring with your camera. Hikes will begin and end at the Visitors’ Center.
The park will also be presenting “How to Read a Cemetery,” on May 2. Hal Hassen, IDNR Archeologist, will be presenting “How to Read a Cemetery” at Beall Woods State Park. The program will begin at 10am in the Visitors’ Center. Mr. Hassen will discuss visual and material characteristics that are found in cemeteries while showing many different photographs as examples and how cemeteries provide insight into how people structured and ordered their social and physical landscape. They also reflect changing cultural and social values.
There will be a 30 minute break around 11:30am. From noon until 1pm, we will visit a nearby cemetery. Please call 618-298-2441 and register in advance if you will be attending this program.
